Diversity & Inclusion

Pre-University Initiatives

Google created this outreach program to encourage girls and youth from historically underrepresented minorities to pursue studies in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). We also partner with like-minded organizations, in regions around the world, that are working to address the declining enrollment rates in technology-related studies in various regions around the globe.

To this end, Google provides financial and people resources to organizations, events, and schools to help attract students to these fields, and show them first-hand how a STEM education can lead to the creation of great products and tools that they know and love to use.

  • Kids visit Google regularly – for hands-on workshops, to learn about exciting careers in technology, and of course, to have some lunch and fun!
  • Google is proud to sponsor the Sally Ride Science Festival, which draws hundreds of grade 5 – 8 girls and their parents for a day filled with workshops, hands-on activities, and an inside chance to find out more about technology careers.
  • Google employees volunteer their time in partnership with the Citizen Schools program to mentor local children in the community. Organizations like Computer Clubs for Girls (CC4G), collaborated with local engineers to launch the first EMEAGirls@Google day in London.
  • “Introduce a Girl to Engineering” takes place annually as part of National Engineers Week in the U.S. Several Google offices participate in this event, and employees bring their daughters to work. We’ve expanded participation in this event by partnering with schools and other organizations to include other girls in this fun-filled day.
