Google Scholarships Celebrate Excellence in Computing

As part of Google’s ongoing commitment to advancing and diversifying the fields of computing and technology, we offer a number of scholarships at the undergraduate and graduate levels of study. These scholarships provide financial support for students around the world and well-deserved recognition for outstanding academic achievement.

In addition, academic scholarship winners and finalists are invited to a Google Scholars’ Retreat to attend talks and workshops, and have fun! These retreats provide ample opportunities for this next generation of great technical minds to get to know each other, and build supportive networks with other technology professionals.

Brianna, an Anita Borg Scholarship recipient told us, “Being a scholarship recipient has really renewed my interest in engineering and encouraged me in my career as an engineer. I think the best part of the scholarship was the opportunity to meet other amazing women who have a passion for engineering and a passion for life. Meeting these women provided me the opportunity to give and receive encouragement and share ideas. Along with meeting these women, learning more about Google’s supportive environment and Anita Borg’s dream has really inspired me to share my interest in engineering with other girls – perhaps those unsure if they would like to study engineering.”

Moriah, another ABI scholar, adds “The biggest impact has been in my level of confidence. I have always struggled, like many women in science fields, with doubts about my abilities, but receiving an award like this has helped me realize that I can and will succeed in this field. Being the recipient of this award has been life-changing for me. I never thought I had a chance of receiving it, but I guess I’m evidence that people often exceed their own expectations.”

G. Pablo, one of the inaugural Hispanic College Fund (HCF) Scholars wrote, “Let me simply say that the retreat was really inspiring. The opportunity to intimately visit Google was more than enough, but on top of that, being able to meet such a diverse group of people was priceless. I think we all returned further empowered to pursue goals that at some time may have seemed far-fetched.”

Travel scholarships in the U.S. provide opportunities for scholarship winners to attend various national technical conferences, including the National Society of Black Engineers, National Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and American Indian Science and Engineering Society.
