Actors across the world have gone through great lengths to fill the shoes of a character, including transforming their physical appearances. Korean actors are no exception, with the latest case being actress Park Min Young, who had to shed a significant amount of weight for her role in Marry My Husband.

A recent report by a Korean news outlet detailed the physical change Park Min Young had gone through in preparation for her upcoming K-drama. An adaptation of the web novel by Sung So Jak, Marry My Husband unfolds the revenge story of Min Young’s Kang Ji Won, a woman whose martyr-like patience snaps upon discovering the affair of her best friend Jung Soo Min (Song Ha Yoon) and husband Park Min Hwan (Lee Yi Kyung), just as she’s diagnosed with a terminal illness.
In recently released photos of the show, Min Young is seen with a noticeable frail appearance, coupled with a patient gown and a beanie covering her head. Korean news outlets disclosed that the actress went down to 37 kilograms for the role to better depict her role’s health condition. “Park Min Young spared no effort in many ways to realistically portray the role of a cancer patient,” Marry My Husband’s production team stated in a translation by Soompi.
“Everyone on set was surprised,” they said. “The ever-changing vibes of Kang Ji Won before and after her revival will be portrayed in a brilliant way, so please show lots of interest.”
Much in par with K-drama’s revenge plots, the series is said to unravel Ji Won’s quest for justice, as she is sent back 10 years into the past to find Yoo Ji Hyeok (Na In Woo), the head of her company’s department—making it one side among many other entangling plots. Count us excited!
Marry My Husband will premiere on January 1, 2024 on tvN.
