Why is Ampang Puteri sponsoring Rozita Che Wan’s childbirth fees?

So Ampang Puteri Hospital has announced that it would fully sponsor the childbirth costs of soon-to-be mother and supercelebrity Rozita Che Wan.

The sponsorship includes full-board, Class A accommodations in the maternity ward, pre- and post-partum treatment, and of course the costs for the childbirth procedure itself, according to this Sinar Harian report.

These packages can cost up to five figures, especially if complications arise and surgery is required.

The question is, why Rozita Che Wan?

Turns out Che Ta’s impending delivery will be part of a reality TV special being put together by Astro. The camera crews are set to follow Che Ta and her husband Zain Saidin around everywhere … including through the front door of Ampang Puteri Hospital (and onto the operating table? Ew.)

Look, we understand the need for marketing, and even an established private medical centre like Ampang Puteri could always do with a few new clients. This move could definitely up the awareness for the hospital, and tying it in with Rozita Che Wan’s brand recognition should raise Ampang Puteri’s cool factor, if indeed hospitals need to, you know, appear to be cool for some reason.

But paying for the hospital fees of a renowned celebrity – who, we assume, can pay for her childbirth on her own – while other expectant mothers and sick people are forced to fend for themselves in getting medical treatment just leaves a bad taste in our mouths.

Maybe Ampang Puteri and Astro can collaborate again after this and see to it that a cancer patient who can’t afford treatment gets that Class A service instead.
