I was very fond of the special radioactive brushes, air puffer bulbs, velvet preeners, and expensive drops necessary to make sure that only a few tics and pops came through the surface noise and during my favorite parts.

I’m one of those 70’s kids who feels Zero nostalgia for vinyl records and can’t understand why they are suddenly popular again.
IMO it’s a crying shame more folk didn’t buy into SACD - it blows the doors off vinyl in every objective measure and is multi channel.
Listening to Pink Floyd DSOTM remastered on SACD in its original quadraphonic glory is just a an incredible experience that vinyl can’t begin to approach.
Another good example of an SACD that blows peoples mind When I play it for them, is the 1812 overture that was natively recorded as an SACD with real canons. Honestly, the first time I played it at reference volume, I nearly crapped my pants. Not only that I was afraid I’d damaged my $10k speaker system. 
Thankfully I hadn’t!
PS SACD is a lossless 1-Bit format that samples at 2.8224 MHz, or roughly 64 times higher resolution than CD Audio.

Because people like us save cords and cables even though we don't need them and they'll be in a box 10 years later and we still won't get rid of them because we'll need them for something. Even 12 years later, when we're forced by our spouses to purge, 1 month after throwing it away, we'll need a new one for something who's exact cable/power supply is needed as the one we finally threw out and we have something we can lord over our spouse for a week or 2

I built these speakers almost 40 years ago so that I could play the 1812 Overture CD on my Sony CDP-101 at full volume. Those are 15 inch Electrovoice woofers in an 11.7 cubic foot bass reflex enclosure that I built from particle board and walnut veneer.
I transferred them to my son, pictured, to his wife's great dismay. We are replacing one of the L-pads going to the midrange horns.
So, it was about 40 years ago I realized that it would be impossible to recreate the sound of a brass canon in my living room with a wooden box and cardboard cone.

Nice, I have a set of massive Krix Cinema speakers that I bought just before the wife and I started dating (~15 years ago).
That’s a 65” OLED TV above the Center channel speaker. It’s 900mm wide and the main speakers are 1100mm tall.

Gotta be honest. Over the last decade I have gotten away from huge AV systems. I have a nice vizio 5.1 sound bar for our main tv and it sounds great. It can even rattle the windows a little bit with the sub. As I get older I find I don't like blasting music anymore..lol... Though for movies it's fantastic and the only thing you see on my wall is the TV and the sound bar. No wires.

True, I’m rapidly approaching 50 (FK that is weird to write!) and my games room is on a much smaller scale and still works great.
For this room I bought a cheap Pioneer AVR and second hand Krix bookshelf speakers.
I am super cautious with my pens after an unfortunate laundry incident in the early 90s. My go-to is a Meisterstück 149 with a custom ground nib. It has its own tray in a drawer that is kept closed when the pen is not in my pocket. Pull that sucker out when signing a restaurant check and you definitely get comments.

Fortunately, most people don't realize how much one of those suckers actually costs. Perhaps it takes someone who sees 50 far behind them to appreciate it?

It's like you're my grandfather's doppleganger. Born just before the turn of the century, he was an early adopter of all things new/technical (gee, is that where I get it!!??), including stereo systems and built one of his first stereos (separate amp and tuner) from a kit.
He also had a pair of giant speakers w/huge Klipsch horns. My Mom said he built them himself (he was an amazing craftsman). Evidently he got some "perfect" wood for speakers from a friend of his that worked for a furniture maker, and when I was looking into this years ago I read somewhere that Klipsch used to sell speaker plans for DIY folks back in the day...
He also put wheels on the bottom of them so he could move them easily when my grandmother complained about dust build-up underneath them...so evidently WAF has always been a thing.
