Freezing rain has chained the southern and southwestern provinces of China and blocked life in many settlements and traffic on the roads.
Due to the ice and fog, there were many accidents on the roads and problems with the supply of electricity, gas and water in the settlements, the Reuters agency reported, referring to the Chinese media.
Thousands of buses, trucks and cars were blocked on roads in Guangxi, Guidzhou and Hunan provinces. Some airports in this part of China were also chained by ice and fog, which led to the cancellation of numerous flights.
For several days now, the temperature has not risen above zero and is three to five degrees Celsius below the average for this time of year and for these areas where winters are mostly mild. Meteorologists predict that this kind of weather will last for the next 10 days, agencies report.
The icy days have raised concerns for people already preparing for a mass migration for the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration on February 3 when most travel to spend the holidays with relatives in the province.
