I am interested in repinning some edge connectors and i dont have a molex crimper tool. Any recommendations on which crimper to buy? Also where is a good place to pick up molex supplies?

yes i have a ton of stuff on the site but i actually stock about 50 more connectors i am slowly adding this month. if you have any questions shoot me a PM and i would be happy to answer any questions. i know connectors...;)

Extraction:

If this is for the .093 round pins, get the molex tool. If this is for the .100/.156 housings (white plastic, single row), using a screw driver (small flat head) to press the pin from the slot.

If this is for the jamma edge connector (vs other molex housings), than don't bother with the molex tool.

I have one, it works poorly at best. (It is an actual molex one.)

It is thin and weak. It doesn't release the tab well at all.

Get a hair pin like this : https://www.dhresource.com/0x0s/f2-...omen-hair-accessories-solid-black-wedding.jpg

Scrap the plastic/rubber off the end and use that instead.

When I use the molex tool, I seem to always destroy the split pin. :(

Ebay and patience for the crimpers - get molex only if you can. The cheaper aftermarket ones in my opinion are not worth wasting your time and produce crappy crimps.

I happen to have the post it note I copied the info from another post from another user so here are the tool part numbers.
HTR2262 0.1
HTR17196 0.062
HTR1031E 0.093
HTR2445A 0.156

I have the amazon cheapie. And I have done... Hundreds of pins. Seldom do I have to cut and recrimp anything.

The molex brand work better, but are still prone to fk ups lol

You do get what you pay for, but the cost of wasted connectors and time from not having a much higher quality crimping tool...

Not worth the money. IMHO

If anyone has a molex connector they wish to donate, I am more than happy to accept.

Yes -
I sell crimpers but even I don't use the ones I sell (hey, I'm cheap).
I bought the full set at about $20 per pair. It takes a lot of time to get good ones at a decent price, often best deals are one-offs that are listed with a buy-it-now. Be careful when watching ebay to make sure they are complete and not broken. Ebay versions are often missing the locator which is part of what makes these crimpers so nice. Replacement locators are available as are main springs, etc. The main spring (4S26 or 31-01-I) can be a real bugger to replace, last time I did this - I used lots of four letter words that I thought I had long forgotten.

Rostra tool company originally made these for Molex. Rostra Tool Co was bought by Sargent Tool Co and is now owed by Oetiker but still goes by name of Sargent.

HTR-2262A (Molex part number) = 3135-CT (Sargent part number)
The 0.1" crimp tool is the only one that does not include a locator.

HTR-1719C (Molex) = 3133-CT (Sargent)
This 0.062" tool does include a locator (SP762-20)

HTR-1031E (Molex) = 3132-CT (Sargent)
This 0.093" tool does include a locator (SP580-20)

HTR-2445A (Molex) = 3136-CT (Sargent)
This 0.156" tool does include a locator (SP763-20)

As another poster put it -- the Molex KK extraction tool is mostly worthless. It does work well on Gottlieb edge connectors but not anywhere else. Often better to steal one of your wife's bobby pins and use it. Don't waste your money on the Waldom W-HT-1084, it's even more worthless.

Ebay item 122896459734 looks good. Still has the Sargent lot code label on it.
Maybe item 322984189840 but something looks wrong with his locator.

Avoid this one: 292325695194

Another excellent tool to have handy:
Thomas and Betts "Shure Stake Hand Tool" part number WT145C.
Great tool for doing crimp lugs.
Nothing worthwhile on ebay for this one today.

Ok back to the MOLEX HTR-xxxxx discussion, and i only reallty care about the HTR-series. Don't give a rats ass about Waldom, Sargent, or any other clone wannabe tool maker.

I have the 4 HTR crimpers quoted above (0.062, 0.093, 0.100, and 0.0156 sizes), but what gd HTR does the more famous 0.084 size crimps?

HTR-2445A 0.156
HTR-2262A 0.100
HTR-1031E 0.093
HTR-_____ 0.084
HTR-1719C 0.062

HTR-2450A ?
HTR-4059A ?
HTR-4067B ?
HTR-5021 ?
HTR-5973 ?
HTR-7176 ?
HTR-8519B ?
HTR-60687 ?

0.084" connectors use HTR-60687 (Molex hand tool 11-01-0167)

HTR-2450A = 11-01-0101 = "Relay and switch terminals" most of which are obsolete
HTR-4059A = 11-01-0088 = "Claspon" series contacts ... whatever they are.
HTR-4067A = dunno
HTR-5021 = dunno
JHTR-5973 (Japan series) = 11-26-0119 = 5974T series (08-70-1043) whatever that one was.
HTR-7176 = 11-01-0197 = 4.2mm mini-fit JR contacts (very useful)
HTR-8519B = 11-01-0118 = dunno

FYI -- Sargent Tools (was Rostra) was the actual contracted manufacturer for many of the Molex HTR series tools and the 3100 series includes the some of the original HTR cirmp tools.

Yep, and boy is it expensive keeping all those tools.

I have more crimpers than you can shake a stick at.
