Avril Lavigne – Goodbye Lullaby
Avril Lavigne’s fourth album was a difficult one for the singer to release. Although Avril had initially been prepared to release her follow-up to 2007’s The Best Damn Thing in November 2009, disputes with her record label RCA led to serious push backs. They didn’t like the somber direction of her new music, and wanted more radio-friendly songs. Finally, Goodbye Lullaby was released on March 8, 2011. The first single, “What The Hell,” was released in January and reached top 10 on radio. Avril described it as the least personal song on the album. That spring they released “Smile” as the second single, but it did worse on the charts. The third and final single, “Wish You Were Here,” came out in September had minimal airplay. Avril parted ways with RCA late in 2011.
Goodbye Lullaby was originally meant to be a softer album, but those tracks mostly made up the latter half of the album. The songs that appear earlier in the record show Avril recreating the pop rock that made her third album popular. Highlights on Goodbye Lullaby include “Darlin’,” “Remember When,” “Goodbye,” “Stop Standing There,” and “Not Enough.”
