Ameesha Patel reprised her role as Sakeena in the film Gadar 2, a sequel to Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. The actress is currently basking in the success of the sequel, which went on to collect over Rs 450 crore at the box office in India. No one expected that the film would be such a massive hit with the audience. In a recent interview, Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma talked about Ameesha and how she got the role.
During the conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Anil Sharma said that he wanted to cast someone else in the role instead of Ameesha. He said that the requirement for the character was a moon-like face. He also acknowledged that the actress was fit for the role because of her looks; however, he added that he had shortlisted another actress because she was a better actor. He said, "Chand jaisa chehra chahiyye thaa. Acting me thodi weak thi." He also revealed that he told Nitin Keni, who was the producer of the film at the time, "Suit to mujhey yeh kar rahi he lekin ek dusri ladki he woh better actor hai." He went on to add that personality-wise, Ameesha was perfect for the role as "Ameer ghar ki ladki he, toh iskey andar woh baaat he, woh attidude he."

The filmmaker also shared that he trained her for 4-5 hours a day for six months, which helped her imbibe Sakeena's personality in her.
On the other hand, Ameesha had also accused Anil Sharma of not paying the dues of the make-up artists, technicians, and costume designers of the film. Speaking about the same, he had disagreements with the actress while shooting for Gadar 2 and during Gadar: Ek Prem Katha as well. He added that Ameesha "bade ghar ki bitiyaa he, unke mijaaz thodey bade he, magar dil ki buri nahi he, dil ki achchi he." Anil said that because she belongs to a rich family, she has that attitude. He further stated that he comes from a simple family and lives with "pyaar mohobbat." The filmmaker expressed that even Ameesha has a sweet personality, but sometimes her attitude shifts, but she is good at heart.

Gadar 2 was released in theatres on August 11, 2023.
