Vegetation
The vegetation in Malaysian is dense evergreen rainforest. Rainforest covers more than two-fifths of peninsula and two-thirds of Sarawak and Sabah; another part is under swamp forest. Tidal swamp on coast, freshwater and peat swamp forest on parts on the coastal plains, lowland rainforest on others fill up to an elevation of about 2,000 ft. Submontane and montane forest (Cloud forest) are in higher areas.
The flora of the rain forest is among one of the richest in the world, containing several thousands species of vascular plants which includes more than 2,000 species of trees. The parasitic monster flower, Rafflesia Arnodii, which bears the world's largest known flower (3 ft in diameter). The forest canopy is so dense that sunlight is barely able to penetrate through, thus resulting in poor undergrowth. The forest includes a large variety of animal life. Mammals inclue elephants, tigers, and Malayan gaurs. Crocodiles, lizards, and cobras are a few of amphibians and reptiles that live in the rain forest.
