New Delhi: In yet another incident involving the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI), a deep-fake video of Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif was recently shared on social media.
In the morphed clip, the Merry Christmas actress was heard using near-perfect French while speaking publically during an event.

Soon after Katrina’s video circulated on the internet, several netizens, believing it to be real, started praising the actress’ for speaking French fluently by taking to the comment section.
One wrote, “Multitasking multi-talented woman.” Another added, “She’s so supremely talented unlike any other Indian actress.” A third user commented, “She can speak French but can’t speak Hindi that we’ll thought she is living here. strange!”
The Reality of Katrina’s Viral Video
Meanwhile, after a bit of research, it came to light that the French audio in the actress’ video is not original but AI-generated. Shortly after, several reports further revealed the clip used in the deepfake was from a book launch event that was held on 13th December 2017 in Mumbai.
During the event, Bina Kak’s book titled ‘Silent Sentinels Of Ranthambhore‘ was launched by superstar Salman Khan in the presence of many prominent guests including Saleem Khan and Katrina Kaif.

Notably, this was not the first time when a popular actress fell victim to the ongoing deep fake scam. In the last couple of years, over a dozen major Bollywood & South Indian superstars including Rashmika Mandhanna, Kajol, Aamir Khan, and Ranveer Singh amongst others were targetted by cyber criminals with the use of deep-fake & various other AI-powered technology.
