Next-gen Perodua Bezza to only debut in two to three years – will feature a more ASEAN-oriented design

Perodua’s next compact sedan will feature a more ASEAN-oriented design. This is according to company president and chief executive office Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad, who spoke in a press conference at the Asian Compact Sedan Design Competition (ACSDC 2023), as reported by NST.

Perodua has only ever offered one compact sedan, and that is the Bezza which has been around since July 2016 – it got a facelift in January 2020. At the event, Zainal said planning for a complete redesign of the Bezza would likely start from now for a complete model change in two or three years.

The Axia got a full model change (FMC) this February and made the switch to the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA), which the next Bezza is expected to use as well. For a bit of history, the first-generation Axia debuted well ahead of the Bezza in September 2014.

To gather inspiration for a design that speaks to the ASEAN market, Perodua collaborated with the Malaysian Design Council (MRM) to organise ACSDC 2023 to promote good design and stimulate competitiveness among car designers.

Open to participants from ASEAN countries, the competition is divided into two categories: university students and professional designers. Zainal said widening participation will allow the infusion of ideas from different parts of the region to be adopted in the design of Perodua’s next car.

The competition will span seven months until eight contestants are shortlisted, following which the finalists will develop a full-scale model and present the design thinking behind each design. Over RM100,000 worth of prizes and incentives await the finalists.

    • Just stop it P2… Bezza can saupei pack bag balik kampung.
It has continue loss to Saga even since it started selling.
And with questionable safety rating, even we are scared to push this model for sales.
Before launch new model our HQ better buck up their ruined image caused by the safety test scandal.

        Mr Suspect P2
Ask your brain the price difference between a basic Saga n bezza 1.3 Auto.
Saga can sell, even with an outdated Campur engine, mainly due to the almost 10K price difference.
Some buyers only have 38K budget for a basic 1.3 sedan. So what choice they have?Even the base Axia 1.0 cost as much as a 1.3 Saga.
SO Saga sales might only generate a thinner margin, compared to the X50 ,X70 n X90 where a better margin is expected.
So,which P2 CEO will discontinue Bezza just because Saga beat them by say a 500-1000 units, monthly? You might be surprised if Bezza beat Saga interms of gross profits on a yearly basis.

You are giving credit to Geely.

    • funny how it doesn’t make sense at all even for a 2 years old. how incoherent. once ugly forever ugly? did you think design is objective and a carmaker only releases one car throughout it’s existence for it to never be pretty? or am I too confusing for you?

ASEAN oriented? Not to say you main the export?! Buat lah Malaysia oriented design dulu.

You know Malaysian like DRL, why the models either don’t have or have DRL that looks like after thought? Don’t have it on the bumper lah, integrate it with the headlamps.

Lack of safety features. Only Advance version has good features. For another lowest Varients just a basic car only 4k or 5k cheaper than the AV version. perodua playing with safety for the duit. Why not standardise the safety for all varients?
