Lisa Surihani finally accepts offer to join Quran-related programme
8 Feb - After declining offers to appear in Quranic-recitation shows time and time again, Lisa Surihani finally opened her heart to get involved in one for this year's Ramadan programme.
The actress shared as much recently, revealing that she will be involved in Astro Oasis' show, "Jom Khatam", which will be aired during Ramadan.
Said Lisa, "I had been invited time and time again by Astro Oasis to participate in their tadarus programme and I politely declined. I was thinking, my recitation is still poor and it would be embarrassing."
However, at the same time, Lisa tried her best to improve her recitation by joining tadarus classes held by neighbours, tajwid classes, as well as online recitation courses.
"It was a struggle yes, what with my R pronunciation and all that. But praise be to God, I am surrounded by family and close friends who are very encouraging," she said.
Thus, said Lisa, she decided to accept the offer when it came her way again this year, and that she hopes that her appearance in the programme would inspire those who struggled like her to make the Quran "their best friend".
"To do this was nerve-racking and challenging. Please accept this from me and from the team of Jom Khatam," she added.
