The Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque also known as “The Iron Mosque”, began construction in 2004 in Putrajaya Malaysia and was finished in 2009.  The Mosque’s is made up of mostly (around 70%) steel and was constructed to hold up to about 20,000 worshipers.  The Mosque was constructed in the style that mixes both German and Chinese architecture. One of the most unique features about The Iron Mosque is that was constructed with out a minaret, which is a staple in most Mosques and is used for the call to prayer.

The inside of The Iron mosque was designed to specially highlight important Qur’anic versus.  A 43 foot Mihrab wall was constructed in the interior of the mosque using special glass panels that do not reflect light. This was done to make the versus that appear on the wall look as though they are floating in air. The 2 verses inscribed on the left hand side are from Surah Ibrahim and on the right side the 2 verses are from Surah Al-Baqarah

The main prayer hall has an inscription of the Suruah Al-Isra verses 80:

“And say: My Lord, make me enter a truthful entering, and make me go forth a truthful going forth, and grant me from Thy presence an authority to help (me).” (17:80)
