Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei to attend biopic's world premiere

"Lee Chong Wei", a biopic on the eponymous badminton player, is set to hold its world premiere this March.

5 Jan – Malaysia's professional badminton player and national hero, Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei, will be gracing the world premiere of his biopic, "Lee Chong Wei".

The premiere is set to be held at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on 9 March 2018.

It will be attended not only by the badminton legend himself and his family, but also by fans, celebrities, distinguished guests and VIPs.

An audience of 30,000 strong is expected to turn up. As such, the event aims to make a mark in The Malaysia Book of Records with its mass spectators and giant LED screen.

Jake Eng plays the child version of Lee Chong Wei in the biopic.

Tosh Chan, meanwhile, plays the teen version.

Even though the movie entails Lee Chong Wei's inspirational story of rising from a poor background to becoming the national hero that he is today, this will be the eponymous star's first time watching it, as revealed by executive producer Datuk Joe Lee in a press statement.

The world premiere will include a red carpet event, lucky draw and song performances. Director Teng Bee, however, is keeping mum on who will be performing the theme song of the biopic.

The following week after its world premiere, "Lee Chong Wei" will open in cinemas nationwide, on 15 March 2018.
