Why Were Soma and Agni Attacked?

// I’m sorry if a theory post doesn’t seem fitting for the kind of account this is, but it’s something I’ve thought about and a discussion I’ve been wanting to add to. After much deliberation, I have decided to go through with this post.

Going off Soma’s initial reaction to the killer, as well as how he reacted when he first saw our Ciel, I am going ahead and assuming the killer was the real Ciel. 

(Almost forgot, there’s also Agni’s reaction to the burn scraps of the photo that OC [our Ciel] was quite avid in keeping the others from seeing).

The question then is, why would RC (real Ciel) attack Soma and Agni? Why would he target the prince? It could have to do with reasons that he doesn’t like anyone his brother may have grown close to in his absence. 

Or maybe, that is just a small part of it. 

What if he needs Soma’s cinematic record to keep him going?

Observe: in almost every major arc so far, starting with the curry arc when we first meet Soma, OC has a ‘big brother’ figure. 

In the circus arc, it is Doll.

In the Weston arc it is McMillan, 

In the Green Witch arc, it’s Finny. 

If RC really is a perfected Bizzare Doll, regardless if Undertaker was behind his creation or not, what if part of the reason he is so *perfected* is because his memories  were made to flow in a way that made sense? That in some way, he always was at OC’s side, was always the only brother the younger needed? 

It’s pointed out in the Circus arc that it’s strange for Will to be going as far as to go undercover. If he simply needed to be ready to collect several souls at once, would that really stipulate him being so personally invested in an investigation? The only time we see reapers go to this extent is in the Campania arc, when there is an issue with soul collection. Hence, was Will was there because there was a person slated to die who’s soul they wouldn’t be able to collect? 

Yana makes a point of showing both Joker and Beast, two of the more prominent first string members as far as the immediate story of that arc, having their cinematic records looked at and collected. So why of all the first string members would we not get to see Doll’s?

Because Will wasn’t able to collect it. 

At the end of the arc, right after Sebastian presumably kills Doll, we see Undertaker looking over the scene from not too far off. But why would he be there? What reason could he have for showing up at that exact time? I think, he took something he knew he’d need. And that, even if it wasn’t his complete doing the entire time. Initially, at least, and to some degree, Undertaker had to do with RC’s revival. 

If this is the case, then Doll’s cinematic record has already been added to RC. We can assume that he will go after Soma again, and that would mean Finny and McMillan are next. //

In light of the recent developments in the manga, I am starting to reconsider this theory that Undertaker may have used Doll’s Cinematic Record in the resurrection of Real Ciel as a Bizarre Doll. However, I’m not certain that Undertaker ‘needs’ the Records of the other brother figures since Real Ciel seems to be fully ‘back’ now. I don’t think Undertaker would let him walk around so independently if he was ‘incomplete’ or needed more Cinematic Records. That having been said, I am not ruling it out either.

I also like the idea that when Real Ciel said in Chapter 141 that he was 'always by Our Ciel’s side’, he literally meant that since he would 'remember’ being there through Doll’s memories…super creepy…

As for taking the Cinematic Records of the other brother figures, I think it’s actually more likely that Real Ciel would simply eliminate the other brother figures, since he wants to be the only one now, but who knows? We shall see what Yana does next…

It’s an interesting theory that other people’s Cinematic Records may have been added to real Ciel’s Record, though I agree with @kurotwins that real Ciel probably doesn’t need anyone else’s Records now because he already seems to be quite a ‘perfect Doll’. Since he’s an even better success than Agares there’s surely a new method involved in his resurrection additional to the usual technique. Undertaker mentioned that real Ciel had good ‘episodes’ (aka yearnings for the future which were the key to success for Agares). We know that real Ciel’s wish as a kid was to be with his brother forever. So maybe this yearning may have been combined with Records of memories from people with a relationship to our Ciel which may have improved real Ciel’s condition as a Bizarre Doll…

However, real Ciel seems to be himself now or at least aware of who he once was. He surely has changed a bit but what I mean is that he’s not confused about his identity or his memories as he probably would be if he had the memories of multiple unknown people added to his own Record.

We know now that UT always took real Ciel with him and that they were never too far away from our Ciel. So even if real Ciel’s condition was much worse then he may have made his own ‘memories’ of our Ciel without having to add some foreign ones to his Record. Maybe UT added something like empty Records which were then filled from watching our Ciel from afar.

As for the attack on Soma and Agni, like @kurotwins I also think that real Ciel wanted to get rid of those who in his eyes took his place as our Ciel’s brother rather than that it was really necessary in order to get someone’s Record. 

But still, the idea of recycling someone’s Records to use it for someone else may not be impossible. UT might at least try it. Since the Records are not collected by the shinigami UT could use them (like he already does), so why not try to combine different Records…
