Thaipusam 2024: History
As per Hindu Scriptures, Lord Murugan fought with Soopradaman, a ferocious demon that had taken over hell, earth, and heaven. Three devils were ruthlessly tormenting the universe. They functioned as representations of pride, rage, and greed.
Lord Murugan's mother Parvathi bestowed upon her son a celestial spear known as Vel, which has the ability to defeat evil. Soorapadman was defeated by Lord Murugan when he went to the battlefield and attacked him with his strength. Thus, by eliminating the asura, the Devas brought peace to the world. Since then this day is celebrated as Thai Pusam.
