Korean singer-actor
IU turned a year older on May 16 and the celebrations still continue for fans, who have dubbed themselves as
UAENA in India. The only IU fandom in India, UAENA launched their birthday project 2021 to celebrate the special occasion.
Talking about the one-year-old fan club, founders Megha Kamble and Abanheer Vandra told ETimes, “This year, we started discussing
IU Birthday Project 2021 a bit early.
While we could have done a donation project, since most of us are teenagers, students, and new employees and some have already donated to other projects, we decided to do something creative so that everyone can participate.”
The fanclub had announced the birthday project in the first week of May, asking fans can submit their creations. At first, we were not sure if we could surpass the number of last year’s project, but to our surprise, 39 projects were submitted. This included fanart, aesthetics, concept pictures, digital fanart, song covers,
poems,
choreography covers, video edits.

Meanwhile, IU celebrated her special day with a generous donation of 500 million won (approximately 440,857 US dollars) towards the treatment of cancer patients and adolescents suffering from other chronic diseases. It will also aid children's welfare and support single-parent families alongside senior adults, who live alone.
Referring to the artist’s thoughtful move, the Indian fandom founder added, “As we are growing in numbers, we wish to be helpful towards needy people like her one day. When I see my group members being nice to others, doing good deeds, or morally supporting each other, I can feel that IU is indirectly developing our personality.”
