In the world of entertainment, transformations for roles are not uncommon, with actors going to great lengths to embody their characters authentically. Park Min-young, the talented actress renowned for her versatility, is the latest star to make headlines for a dramatic physical transformation for her current role in the drama ‘Marry My Husband’.
In the series, Park Min-young portrays the character Kang Ji Won, a cancer patient at the beginning of the storyline.
To authentically capture the essence of her character, Park Min-young took on the challenge of deliberate weight loss, shedding up to 37 kilos. The actress revealed that her character's journey required a meticulous effort to perfect the patient's image, and she embraced a strict diet to achieve this transformation.
The surprising aspect of Park Min-young's weight loss journey is not just the substantial amount she shed but also the method she adopted. The actress stated that she significantly reduced her food intake and sustained herself throughout the day with ionized drinks. The extreme nature of such a diet raised concerns among fans, who observed her slender and delicate appearance in the drama.
According to Elle Korea, addressing the anxieties of her fans, Park Min-young stressed that she “absolutely does not recommend” such extreme dieting. There are many risks associated with unhealthy weight loss, such as muscle mass reduction, hair loss, and constipation. This unhealthy method could lead to potential long-term consequences, including a decrease in basal metabolic rate, making it easier to gain weight even with minimal food intake.
In response to inquiries about her motivation for such a challenging diet, Park Min-young said, “I had doubts about whether I would be able to put all my passion into the character because of my age. For the last time, I decided to give it my all with the thought of truly committing to it with great determination."
This isn't the first time Park Min-young has undergone a significant physical transformation for a role. In the past, for her portrayal of
Kim Mi-so in 'What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim?', she engaged in a healthier approach to weight loss. The actress revealed that she “exercised every day for four months and ate chicken breast to lose body fat and increase muscle strength”. The results were not only evident in her changed physique but also in her overall health, showcasing a much healthier figure.
Beyond her commitment to roles, Park Min-young is known for her dedication to self-care through exercise. Whether it's golf, flying yoga, or Pilates, she has showcased her versatility by mastering various postures and staying physically active.
