The Duchess of Cambridge’s style is defined by many things — say, her penchant for heritage British designers and recycling looks. But Kate Middleton’s most signature style is by and large, coat dress.
Over the last year, the royal who turns 38 today, has worn a veritable rainbow of tailored coat dresses from her go-to British brands, namely Catherine Walker and Alexander McQueen.

In 2019 alone the Duchess made headlines in an array of coat dresses ranging from pastels for spring to donegals and hunter green for winter. This past year, she recycled some of her favorite occasions, including at Easter Sunday services in April, where she chose a pastel blue Alexander McQueen coat she had worn to Easter Sunday five years prior. The light blue Alexander McQueen rendition with patch pockets she wore for the naming ceremony of the RRS Sir David Attenborough ship, was worn on two prior occasions.

The Duchess attended the Order of the Garter on June 17, 2019 — which honors the achievements of male and female knights — where she was photographed with the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles, and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands.
