Love love love this book. Wow. Such high quality all around. From the interviews and factoids to the dimensions of the book (size), paper quality, image quality, graphical layout, etc. This is just a home run. A great intimate look at one of the greatest directors of all time. I just wish it existed 4 years ago when I did my own personal study of Riley Scott!! I had to buy random books and scour the internet for interviews and articles as well as listen to all the director commentaries on all the Blu-ray/dvds of his movies to get this info and I still learned new things from this book. All encompassing introduction or refresher of Ridley’s brand of cinema and directorial prowess.

I'm a huge fan of Ridley Scott and I've enjoyed most of his films, even his so so movies are still fun to watch. This book is filled with fascinating details about Ridley and the movies he made over the last 43 years. It talks about his early life and what inspired him and it details all of his films, the pre and post productions and how he put his special touch into all of them. If you enjoy watching his films you will enjoy reading this book.

An excellent book about one of the great Directors making films today. The book covers Ridleys early career working at The BBC and his signature films Alien and Bladerunner. As a filmmaker this book is a must read for any aspiring filmmaker.

Great price and free shipping with Prime fir starters. A bit of a coffee-table book but excellent value. But above all the wealth of information about the making of Scott’s films, and the insight and clarity of the author Ian Nathan’s writing, make this a very worthwhile purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book about Ridley Scott's genius.

I became interested in Ridley Scott after watching Black Hawk Down. As a filmmaker myself, I was able to clearly see that Ridley is a genius. He is also versatile and has made films in a variety of genres. I also loved Thelma and Louise and the crime biopic American Gangster. Ridley Scott A Retrospective is a respectful and well balance biography of the man and his work. He is a prolific and extremely energetic filmmaker, who despite being old now, shows no sign of slowing down. He is a dynamic source of creative energy. The book is also filled with rich glossy photos from his films and documentary photos of his life on the film sets. A brilliant book and I thoroughly recommend it.
