Negeri Sembilan Yang Dipertuan Besar, Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir today called on the people to be aware and truly understand news and information received from the print, electronic and social media.

He said the fast dissemination of news and information today meant that attention was given to every action of leaders and other individuals, and these quickly spread.

"As such, people should be smart in telling the difference between truth and lies, as well as between facts and views," he said.

The ruler said the public should assess the source of the information and look at the motive of the news which could be slanted to serve the interest of certain parties.

"This should be done before the public reacts or voice their stand which could influence and have an effect on the future of the nation," he said.

Tuanku Muhriz was speaking at the investiture ceremony held in conjunction with his 69th birthday at Istana Besar Seri Menanti, here.
