PM Najib named as 'Malaysia Official 1' in 1MDB scandal

Senior Malaysian government minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan has told the BBC that the "Malaysian Official 1" linked by the US to the 1MDB corruption scandal is Prime Minister Najib Razak.

In July, a lawsuit filed by the US Department of Justice to seize assets bought with more than $3.5bn it says was stolen from the national wealth fund alleged "Malaysian Official 1" received some $681m of the money, though returned most of it.

The term was widely understood to refer to Malaysia's prime minister, but until now was never officially confirmed. He has always denied any wrongdoing.

He was speaking to the BBC's Karishma Vaswani.
