The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 is a mouthful and a monster all in one. At its debut party, CEO Tim Kuniskis talked about it and the future of the company and he might just have given away a yet-unannounced detail. There might be another Dodge EV muscle car in the works that we’ll see later this year.
The notable comments came just minutes before he and the team in Las Vegas literally dropped the Demon 170 off at the drag strip. Speaking specifically about the future of Dodge, Kuniskis said
“While everyone else is going to bring an electric car to market, Dodge is going to bring a muscle car and use electrification to make it not more politically correct, but to make it faster and dodgier.
“So efficiency be damned… we always wanted to do a ’68 Charger and this was our chance. We just needed to study the rules and find ways to do something cool that could comply and make happy without spiritually retreating from the things that we love.

“That Charger Daytona has what it takes to do exactly that. The new Charger Daytona will redline American muscle, and don’t worry… don’t worry, you know us. We haven’t fully pulled back the curtain on this car… or maybe these cars just yet.”
That phrase, which Kuniskis clearly pauses for emphasis on, hints at the idea that Dodge already has at least one more EV muscle car in development. That makes sense considering that Dodge as a brand currently only has four cars in its arsenal, the Hornet, Durango, Charger, and Challenger. Clearly, the Charger and Challenger are going away as we know them after this year.
According to the folks over at MoparInsiders, their sources say Dodge already plans to unveil EV successors to each model this August. This year’s Woodward Dream Cruise is on August 19, and is said to be the site of those reveals.
There’s no word on exactly what specs or even what form the first two all-electric Dodge models will come with. It would be interesting to see the automaker be one of the first to market with a two-door electric car. If it can manage to earn the moniker of muscle car that would be even more impressive.
