Kim Tae-hee pairs with Song Seung-heon in My Princess

Kim Tae-hee has been cast as Song Seung-heon‘s leading lady in the upcoming romantic-comedy drama series My Princess.

Not much has been explained about Song’s character, but Kim plays a lively character who dreamed of being a princess when she was younger, but “returns to reality” and goes back to school as a late university student. The twist? One day she becomes a real princess.

Must… resist… snark… reflex…

Oh, screw it. Now THIS is going to be awesome. By which I mean awesomely entertaining in the so-bad-it’s-good way. Because individually, these are two stars who are known for being as limited as actors as they are gorgeous to look at. (They both remind me of really beautiful robots.) Together they will be blinding with their good looks and, if they’re lucky, might just scrape together enough acting talent for one regular actor. (Okay, that last part might have been a little harsh. They have both had projects where they’ve been decent in the overall scheme of things. But in those examples, they were mostly paired up with or overshadowed by much more talented co-stars and epic storylines. Example: their most recent projects, IRIS and East of Eden.)

On top of that, My Princess comes from writer Kim Eun-sook of the Lovers trilogy, City Hall, and On Air. She’s known for sharp, fast-flying dialogue and lots of banter, which is not an area in which either is particularly gifted.

Still? I’m actually looking forward to this. Either they’ll surprise me and be adorable and funny together, or it will be unintentionally amusing. Win-win?

Kim Tae-hee is currently filming the movie Grand Prix and will begin working on the drama in late August. My Princess is looking at a premiere later this year.

Read the rumors earlier this week courtesy of ripgal, but bust out laughing so hard I nearly herniated myself.

But to know it came true is......wow! Thanks JB, your write up is *exactly* how I feel, even though I'm willing to watch SSH in anything, he's still standing in the same place acting skills wise from his AIMH days.

Bring on the pretty, people!!! [but really, with a script from Kim Eun-sook? really? I mean, wow, Kim Ha-neul barely scraped by in On Air, and now Kim Tae-hee?] Oh well, open mind, snark-ready.

Or rather, block of wood that was once a fiery young, hot-blooded thing called Eun-sung-aah, meet... block of wood v2. I totally give these two my blessings.

I am honestly not even remotely a hater. I'm agnostic or indifferent, whatever...
But she always looks to me as though she has smelled something bad.
Maybe it was IRIS's writing she was smelling.

I find it amusing that some readers of this site are nothing more than bandwagoners and just follow whatever directions the wind blows. If the writer voice their disapproval, then the rest follow suit. Before dissing someone else abilities, wonder if you can do a better job?

AHHHHHHHH! I can't resist posting to this. I've been a silent reader on this blog for a while now, but your post made me laugh so hard that I had to break the silence.

I mean, KTH and SSH? It's awesome on so many levels. I love SSH and will watch him regardless of his acting skill - he's kind of like my Korean Keanu Reeves - but I definitely expect to bust a gut laughing at this drama, whether it's due to intentional or unintentional humor. Definitely "inspired" casting.

I don't think a person has to be able to act better than an actor in order to critique acting. Otherwise the only people who would be fit to say anything about anything would be so-called experts, and I don't think that rule is any more likely to elicit fair critique. We're all free to have our opinions, and this one's mine.

@smiley

Ouch, that was harsh. Generalizing a bit, aren't we? Maybe those people just happen to agree.

But seriously, just because someone can't act doesn't mean that person can't see bad acting. I'm a terrible cook myself, but at least I know it and I can tell when other people are bad cooks. You don't have to be good at something to know when someone else is bad.

Anyway, about the post, I haven't actually seen either of these two actors so I'll reserve my judgment until after I see the first episode or so of the drama, though I must admit that I'm a bit biased against it just because I'm really sick of princess dramas right now. But who knows, maybe it'll be a pleasant surprise.

"Either they’ll surprise me and be adorable and funny together, or it will be unintentionally amusing. Win-win?"

Indeed. I'll try to hold that thought (despite the eeks drama title and gist) and give this drama a try...

Haha, sorry about the double post, but case in point: after I post my comment, I look up, and lo and behold! JB has said almost the same thing, just a minute before mine (which I didn't see because I spent that minute typing up my own opinion. Proof that not everyone with a similar opinion is a part of the bandwagon, no?

I agree that KTH's acting is not that great, but I think she did improve in IRIS. As for SSH, I think it's because a lot of his dramas were always just TOO DRAMATIC (like east of eden). I actually don't find SSH that bad, and I'm not extremely charmed by his looks, to me he's just an average actor. I mean if you need to compare, KJH is 10 times worse =.="

But anyways I'm still tempted to watch it.

yes, I think they may be unintentionally amusing! hahaahh. nevermind I will just take it as bubblegum or popcorn, watch and forget.

The quick dialogue may help them, let them talk more so that they can act. Bad actors cant act without dialogue.

HUH. so surprising. never envisioned this pairing. haha aren't they both a BIT TOO BEAUTIFUL to be paired together!? i do love song seung hun. his acting skills aren't on par with his irresistably gorgeous looks (he's prob the one actor whom i've consistently liked over the years, all because he is so damn handsome) but i think he has a likeability factor that has helped him stick around so long. likewise for KTH.

i like kim eun sook's dramas, for the most part. lovers in paris and on air, namely. she does have a tendency to lighten up heavy drama with somewhat stupid/slapstick comedy moments from side characters who seem to exist purely for that purpose, but otherwise i've enjoyed her dramas.... city hall wasn't for me, so hopefully this one will be :)

I'm not too happy about Kim Tae Hee being paired up with him so I can't say I'm too excited about this anymore... I wasn't too happy with her being paired up with Lee Byung Hun in IRIS either.

Anyway, I was sort of hoping a different pair like Kim Sun Ah & Song Seung Hun for a change. It's something you would never thought but it may be a pairing that have potential of becoming something great! Come on, let's mix and match here people!

They make a good couple in real life though.

THe summary seems a little cheesy but i do love romantic comedies.

I love Tae Hee. Before i hated her when "stairway to heaven" came out. BUt i came to love how down to earth she is. She knows she's not a good actor and improves on it.

As for SSH. He's okay. Never really love any of his works. I did liked "summer scent" but that was because of Son Ye Jin.

But i'm excited for this. They are just the hottest thing alive if pair together.

NOw i'm really curious who would be cast as second leads.

Right! Oh ya how true ,we do not have to be an expert to tell whether an acting is good or bad.. One that bring out the empathy in you is a good one,. One that you feel "oh -they -are -so-unnatural" ....even you feel so awkward when you are watching them I guess is NOT a good acting..

Now I have not seen Song Seung-heon in a romantic comedy. I can only remember him in Summer Scent, Autumn in My Heart, and East of Eden, which are pretty darn serious.

And Kim Tae-hee...well, this should be interesting :)

@31: I don't want to stir the pot, but being wishy-washy is even worse than being critical. The mantra "Let the haters hate", right? If you're proud of their work, stand strong - don't let other commenters get to you so much. I don't.

Off of that note, and on to another: I don't think I want to see this considering the plot, not because of the people chosen for the roles.

This pairing is so wrong in talent-sense but it does not surprise me in the least. Half the time when I watch a drama, I think that the PTB aren't really looking for talent or skill, just pretty plastic dolls they can dress up and move around hoping that the audience is too numbed by their looks to pay attention to the skill. I really do feel as if there is no respect for the audience's intelligence or taste.

That said - I will watch the first few episodes just to see if they can sink down to my level of expectations for them.

@ 31, meangirls

this is JB's blog, the comment section is given the title to 'Rant or Rave'

whether you're a fan of or not, you are free to express whatever you want to express according to the owner of this blog's content

it is up to individual fan to distinct in his or own interpretation of what people type is "meanness" or not

there are a lot of people that look forward to this project, netizens in Korea are positively raving in anticipation, many are looking forward to the chemistry SSH and KTH and how it will develop

so fans can just go forward with confidence and if you're a fan this is great news!! if you're not, there will always be another drama to watch by then

personaly, i can't wait to see the chemistry just as Korean netizens have reported... many of us missed the funny, Song Seung Heon of the 3Men 3Women and He Was Cool comedy days... i can't wait for what's in store for us

Perfect combo LOL.

But again, it's comedy. And I've never really seen SSH or KTH tackle comedy before. So MAYBE, I say MAYBE, they're able to pull this off?

I may worry a bit about the CRYING part because they both cry horribly. But yeah, I'm giving them a benefit of a doubt.. who knows comedy may be their thing.

I think its likely to be in the "it will be unintentionally amusing" category or I hope it will anyway. Didn't watch EoE but that sounds pretty funny. I know years after watching StH I still get some good laughs.

@smiley

"Before dissing someone else abilities, wonder if you can do a better job?"

The operative word is they are "actors" and we should expect them to be servicable in there jobs. I would hardly fault them if they couldn't do my job.

@smiley: Way to group everyone into one. Bandwagon? How would you know that? I've seen these two act, and I agree it's laughable. That doesn't mean I think what everything javabeans says is the law. People agree on things, others disagree.

Really? Before dissing someone's abilties, see how much better you can do it? Do YOU live by that? I'd laugh if you said yes, because I'm pretty goddang sure that you don't.

Don't group all of us dramabeans followers into one. We're all different individuals with different thoughts, and just because some people agree with javabeans does not mean all do. Geez.
