The Life-Size Freedom Gundam Is Now Open To The Public In China

This article is more than 3 years old.

The life-size Freedom Gundam was recently unveiled and is now open to the public in Shanghai.

The first life-size Gundam outside of Japan is now finally standing tall and as with each of these enormous statues, I am amazed that they even exist.

In this case, the mobile suit in question is be the ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. Like the previous life-size Gundam statues in Tokyo, the Freedom Gundam in Shanghai is around 18 meters tall.

Designed by legendary mecha design Kunio Okawara, the Freedom Gundam is the mid-season upgrade for Kira Yamato and is generally a very popular design both in Japan and abroad.

The only thing here that does sort of standout is that they chose the “Freedom” Gundam, for display in China.

Admittedly, it is a very popular design, but the irony of its name is somewhat hard to overlook.

The Freedom Gundam’s legacy in gaming has been an involved one as well, from the Super Robot Wars series to the Gundam Versus games, to name a few.

It also received a very nice and new Metal Build toy last year, so it is safe to say that this is definitely a design that the fans like.

Anyway, the life-size Freedom Gundam statue is in front of the Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Jinqiao in Shanghai in case you want to check it out.
