Russell Crowe returns to his Gladiator office, the Colosseum, 22 years later

Russell Crowe is presently on his holibobs and having a swell time of it, as far as one can gleam from his recent Twitter posts.

The 58-year-old star, most recently seen in Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder as the almighty Greek god Zeus, has been chronicling his travels around Italy, most recently finding himself in Rome with his kids.

Arriving at the Colosseum, he made the most wonderfully obvious dad joke of them all: “Taking the kids to see my old office,” he said, in… well, pretty direct reference to his famous role in 2000's Gladiator. Hopefully his weans fared a little better than those of Maximus Decimus Meridius.

Let's just take a moment to appreciate that this gloriously mature witticism accompanies a lovely selfie of Crowe, with his pack of kids to his left, in a pair of aviators. Which are, as we all know, sunglasses of choice for dads everywhere. Someone get him his Number One Dad mug immediately.

Crowe shared a bunch more wholesome photos from inside the Colloseum and, to be honest, it's just nice to see him there not being forced to bisect fellow slaves.

But the crème de la crème came earlier today. Still in the ancient ruins of the old Roman fighting pit, the beating sun behind him throwing out godrays aplenty, Crowe took to Twitter to share a bunch more selfies — this time paired with a passage in Italian:

quello cheo facciamo in vita
riecheggia nell'eternità

A quick Google Translate, and…

"What we do in life, echoes in eternity."

He's only gone and tweeted a quote from Gladiator in Italian, while he's in Italy — the Colosseum, no less — the absolute mad lad. Or should we say mad dad? Keep being you, Russell. The world loves you for it.
