HTC Desire 12, Desire 12+ launched in India starting at Rs 15,800, will start selling from June 11

HTC has launched the Desire 12 and Desire 12+ in India today for Rs 15,800 and Rs 19,790 respectively. These Desire series smartphones are among the cheapest HTC phones to come with near bezel-less display and an aspect ratio of 18:9. Similar to the global variants, the Indian variants of the Desire 12 and HTC Desire 12+ phones will also be available in two colours in India -- Cool Black and Warm Silver. The smartphones will go on pre-orders starting June 7, that is, tomorrow, exclusively on HTC India E-Store. Both the HTC Desire 12 and Desire 12+ will be available for purchase June 11 only from the company e-store.

The Desire 12+ is the heftier version of the two and comes with dual cameras set up on the back and run the latest Android 8.1 Oreo with HTC Sense on top. Currently, there are no details whether the smartphone will be upgraded to Android P or not. The Desire 12, on the other hand, comes with a single camera set up and run on Android with HTC Sense UI on top. Both the smartphones come with HTC's Liquid Surface design scheme, like the previously launched flagship phones like U11 and U11 Plus. Out of the two handsets, only the Desire 12+ comes with a fingerprint sensor which sits in the middle of the rear panel. The Desire 12 doesn't have a fingerprint sensor. Both the smartphones support HTC's Sense Companion assistant in addition to the Google Assistant and also supports face recognition technology.

HTC Desire 12 specs

The Desire 12 sports a 5.5-inch HD+ IPS display with a resolution of 720x1440 pixels and aspect ratio of 18:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6739 SoC paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage, expandable up to 2TB via a microSD card. The phone comes with dual-SIM (Nano) support and runs Android-based HTC Sense UI out-of-the-box. The HTC Sense Companion reminds users about the upcoming events, battery status, and more. There's no fingerprint sensor.

On the optics front, the Desire 12 comes with a single camera of a 13-megapixel sensor on the back. The rear camera of the HTC Desire 12 comes with features like -- Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF), BSI sensor, f/2.2 aperture, LED flash, Bokeh mode, self-timer up to 10 seconds, face detection and Panorama. On the front, the phone sports a 5-megapixel BSI sensor with a f/2.4 aperture. The phone comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack, some sensors and is backed by a 2730mAh battery. There's also a power saving mode.

HTC Desire 12+ specs

HTC Desire 12+ sports a bigger display and better camera setup than the Desire 12. The smartphone comes with a 6-inch HD+ IPS display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and resolution of 720x1440 pixels. On the hardware front, the phone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC coupled with 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded to 2TB via a microSD card. The phone runs Android 8.0 Oreo with HTC Sense on top.

In terms of optics, the smartphone comes with dual cameras on the back consisting of 13-megapixel BSI primary sensor and 2-megapixel secondary sensor. The rear camera of the HTC Desire 12+ comes with features like -- Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF), BSI sensor, f/2.2 aperture, LED flash, Bokeh mode, self-timer up to 10 seconds, Face detection and Panorama, similar to that of the Desire 12. On the front, the Desire 12+ includes an 8-megapixel BSI camera sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, meaning users will be able to capture detailed pictures in low light settings.

The dual cameras on HTC Desire 12+ are capable of capturing multiple focal points simultaneously, meaning it will let users refocus photographs after they are taken. Users will also be able to add Bokeh effect after the picture has been clicked. With Bokeh mode, HTC Desire 12+ lets users capture picture keeping the background blur, and foreground in focus. The phone comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack, some sensors and is backed by a bigger 2965mAh battery. Unlike the Desire 12, the Plus variant comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
