Technical illustrations

Everybody knows: “A good drawing is worth thousands of words”. When you want to sell a product or an idea, there’s often nothing more convincing than a picture. For sales presentations, user instructions, manuals, brochures or websites, illustrations are often more effective than photos or cgi (computer generated imagery).

For example, when photography isn’t practical or feasible, because the product isn’t ready or accessible. Or when a photo could be confusing or unclear. Because in a drawing, you can leave out elements or make them transparent, or make them stand out.

For clients in industry and education, Jan van Es [design] has made hundreds of illustrations, in styles ranging from very schematic to photorealistic. They have been used for sales literature, user manuals, spec sheets, safety instructions, web sites, catalogs, and even in machine user interfaces.
