Last November 24, Siwon liked a tweet from a Korean news account. The tweet contained a link to an interview done by CNN with Patrick Chow. He is a 21-year-old Hong Kong native who was shot by a police officer during the rally. However, Patrick was an unarmed protestor.

The article garnered a lot of hateful comments from Chinese citizens especially the ones from the mainland who are in favor of the one-China policy. After Siwon liked the tweet, a Chinese netizen took a screenshot and uploaded it on Weibo, a Chinese SNS. After that, it went viral and Siwon's Chinese fans were disappointed that he liked that particular tweet.

Super Junior's Siwon apologized later on saying that like everyone else, he only wanted peace for Hong Kong. Despite his sincere apologies, his Chinese fans still shut down their club of over 90,000 members.
Korean fans, however, think that it is unfair for the Chinese fans and netizens to tell Siwon not have an opinion regarding the matter. It is after all his right to have freedom of speech.
