Three weeks ago, I bid farewell to an incredible chapter of my life at J&J, a journey that has been nothing short of transformative. Back in 2021, I ventured into the unknown, transitioning from a clinical background to a whole new industry and moving to another state. The pandemic itself was an added layer of challenge, making the transition even more daunting. I recall my first week being J&J's H2 cycle meeting week, and I dialled in to each session, surrounded by unfamiliar faces on a virtual screen. Little did I know that the screens held the kindest, most supportive colleagues one could ever ask for. Since day one, my J&J colleagues embraced me as if I had been there since forever. They offered guidance, shared wisdom, and extended a hand of friendship, even across the digital divide. During those initial months of virtual interactions, they made sure I never felt alone on this journey. When the borders opened and we were finally free to travel again, one of the moments I held closest to my heart was receiving a colleague's message saying "So happy that you're finally able to reunite with your family after months. Have a safe flight home." Simple gestures like these are what made J&J such a heartwarming workplace to be in. Of course, things got even better after we returned to office. Putting faces to names, sharing coffee-break chats, and having real conversations - we became more than just colleagues, we became a tight-knit group that celebrated wins, tackled challenges, laughed at inside jokes and even worked out together. With all that said, to my incredible colleagues at J&J, you have truly been the heart and soul of this journey. Of course, there is Nathan Kothandaraman, my line manager during my time with this amazing organization. Thank you for enabling my very first step into this fulfilling path. Your belief in me, your guidance, and that initial opportunity set the course for this remarkable journey, and I can never thank you enough for that. As I take my leave, I step away with gratitude. Gratitude for every colleague who made me feel like I truly belonged. Gratitude for the chance to contribute, to learn, and to build lifelong friendships. Gratitude for the J&J family. Recently had the opportunity to take part as a volunteer at one of Malaysia's vaccination centre. I met many people who came with different expectations from the vaccine. Some were excited, some were worried and unable to sleep the night before, while some had many vaccine-related queries. My role mainly involves explaining common side effects and getting consent, but I certainly believe it goes beyond that. Due to the crowd, we weren't able to allocate each person much time. However, my previous counselling experiences made me realize that a brief spelling out of potential side effects doesn't help people remember much of the information given. My personal approach during the counselling sessions was to help the vaccine candidates relate to why and how the signs and symptoms occur and present, hoping it will be a more impactful take-home message which will guide them when medical attention is required. It was challenging to counsel continuously for hours. I became a pharmacist because I wanted to help others have the right information to make decisions for their health, and I'm thankful for having the chance to do so while playing a part in our nation's fight against Covid-19!
