Do you know your learning style?

It's been a long time since I was in a classroom, however one lesson that improved my life was understanding the different ways I can learn.

Knowing how I absorb information best and being able to communicate that with my employers has helped me to have the best start in a new role.

By informing employers that I know my learning style; I am telling them that I have self awareness and a commitment to personal growth and you can too!

What are the learning styles?

Visual, Auditory, Kinaesthetic, Reading and Writing

I will elaborate on the five common styles below, read through each and see which one resonates with you the most.

Visual

Are you immediately drawn to charts & infographics when reading instructions? Seeing a plan written out in stages with assisting pictures and screenshots helps you to understand information more so than just text? You may be a visual learner.

Auditory

Are live lectures and recordings music to your ears? You find group discussions and meetings more helpful than emails? Then auditory learning is for you!

Kinaesthetic

Do you find watching someone else show you the task helps to an extent however your confidence only develops when you start doing it yourself? You are a kinaesthetic learner.

Reading & Writing

Hello my little note-takers, I didn't forget you! Does information only settle in your mind once you have transcribed it into your own words? Let your employer know you are a notebook person and this is the best way for you to get a grasp on things.

Does more than one apply to you?

Awesome!

You may find you are drawn to more than one of the learning styles, or find throughout your life your style changes.

It's good to be aware of these learning styles & be in tune with your mind because those who are trying to teach will greatly appreciate that you have already built a solid foundation for you to grow together.

Thank you for reading, please feel free to share & remember to let everyone know what your learning style is!

Great article Amy! I knew I was a visual learner, but I just found after reading your article that I’m also kinaesthetic learner as well.. 😀

What a great topic Amy. I’m definitely a kinaesthetic learner.
