Its hard to explain Byakurans personality well, as he is unable to be “himself” theoretically speaking. The person who is usually one the surface is the optimistic and carefree part of him, always enjoying sweets, and even coming to become a tease at times, innocently poking fun at others. He hardly shows that he ever worries about anything, and his motto in life is usually “Leave things alone and all will be fine!” His thoughtless and carefree personality often gets him into some serious situations, but its hard to stay mad at him for a long time, and even if you did, he would always try to make up for it.
However, there is another side to him, the side that makes him more dangerous. At times, he simply snaps, whether its under pressure or simply for no reason at all. Sometimes it is not very obvious, depending on how the other side could keep up the act. In any case, his other character is almost the complete opposite of the carefree and optimistic Byakuran. Sadistic and ruthless, he doesnt hesitate to pick a fight with others, throwing threats and seemingly relishing the feeling of fighting, laughing at his victims pain.
Despite both sides being wildly different, there is one trait they share, and that is that they are both understanding and emphatatic. The sadistic side of Byakuran is understanding in a dangerous way, playing with his victims emotions and enjoying himself in doing so. The other, however, is empathatic in a way that he can easily feel what the others were feeling, using it to cheer someone up or comfort them a little. - Byakuran never had a normal childhood. His was rocky, and the first thing he noticed as a child was how his parents always seemed to be fighting. They fought over almost everything, from how to support their family to little things like whose turn it was to go shopping. A slight disagreement might lead to a full blown argument in no time. Since he was young, Byakuran always learned how to stay out of sight, afraid that he might provoke his parents. And they did hit him, the child being the only one keeping them together. Byakuran was an unwanted child, it was one of the many things he had found out, among the several others. Always being neglected and beaten, he simply found a coping method, and that was creating another personality. It was forceful at first, but soon it became easier, and his other side took over whenever it was too hard for him to continue taking the blows.
What he did not expect, however, was for it to grow steadily worse. He began to snap easily, and found that he was unable to gather his thoughts and sort them out, as his other side was constantly trying to take over. Eventually, the officials found out about how his parents were treating him and his condition, admitting him to a hospital, but it was too late. Even there, he couldnt properly control himself and snapped often, scaring both staff and patients.
When he was told that he only had a year to live, he didnt react much. In fact, he simply felt numb, unsure of what to feel, or which side was feeling what. It almost felt like a kind of relief, really, not being able to feel anything. That in mind, when he fell into a coma, everything felt perfect. He was in control once again, and did not have to worry about his other side scaring off others. He could be himself, and make friends without them being hurt. It seemed nearly unbelievable, and he was not willing to leave the place,where he could actually be in control of the things he does and thinks.
