A 28-year-old Muay Thai contestant from Thailand succumbed to his injury and died on Saturday, after falling into a coma shortly after participating in a tournament in Kampung Che Deris in Kota Baru, Kelantan.
According to New Straits Times, the Thai national died while receiving treatment at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZ ll).
Kelantan acting police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said that the victim was involved in a match at about 8pm on Friday night.
“He lost to the fighter during the fifth round of the match and fell unconscious shortly after,” Muhamad Zaki was quoted as saying.
He added that the victim was first brought to the Badang health clinic before being transferred to HRPZll when his condition worsened.
“He died at 10.50am yesterday (Saturday) while receiving treatment at the hospital,” said Muhamad Zaki.
His remains were sent to his family in Chumpon, southern Thailand, the same day he died.
It was learnt the victim was married and has one child.
