Cops take statements of Chegubard and former senator over remarks on PM, King

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman investigators have questioned Bersatu members Badrul Hisham Shaharin and Muhammad Zahid Md Arip over remarks made by them about Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim being gifted a car by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the recorded statements from both individuals were done around 11am on Wednesday (March 6).

"A sedition and misuse of network facilities investigation is being conducted by the Special Investigations Unit.

"The case is still in the investigation stage and we advise the public to refrain from speculating which could disturb investigations," he said in a statement.

He advised the public to be wise social media users and to not use the platforms to break the law.

"Stern action will be taken against anyone who intentionally threatens public order and national security," he said.

It was reported that a defiant Badrul Hisham, also known as Chegubard, was willing to be arrested but would not hand over his mobile phone to police.

"This (demand for my phone) is clearly a form of intimidation," said Badrul Hisham when met outside Bukit Aman.

He said he would nonetheless cooperate with the sedition investigation.

"As for the Communications and Multimedia Act probe, I believe I should not be investigated.

"I did not record or spread that video," he said, adding that he was firm on not handing over his mobile device if police requested it.
