SHINee's Taemin and Onew are reportedly set to part ways with SM Entertainment. After 16 years, the singers will be departing the label for their solo activities.

SHINee's Taemin to leave SM Entertainment?

On March 5, South Korean media outlet News1 revealed that SHINee member Taemin's exclusive contract with SM Entertainment would be coming to an end in March 2024, following which the Danger singer has no plans to renew the contract with his current label. As per reports, Taemin plans to continue his activities as a soloist under another label, however, there are still hopes of him continuing his group activities with SHINee under SM Entertainment.

As per SPOT TV, Taemin plans to sign with BPM Entertainment. BPM Entertainment currently houses VIVIZ, former Wanna One member Ha Sung-woon and former NU'EST member Ren. SM Entertainment is yet to make an official statement regarding the reports.

Nowadays, numerous idols have been using this method so that they can expand their solo activities while still continuing group promotions at their debut company. All four members of Blackpink, EXO's Baekhyun and MAMAMOO's Wheein are just a handful of idols who took this route.

News1 also revealed that SHINee's leader Onew is also planning on leaving SM Entertainment. The singer, whose contract is ending in the first half of 2024, is currently discussing his renewal with the label.

The singer also debuted as a soloist, with his mini-album ACE, and a member of the super group SuperM in 2019 under SM Entertainment. Known for his extraordinary dance skills, Taemin is often dubbed as the Idol's Idol as a number of K-pop idols have cited him as an inspiration.
