Approximately 20 years in the industry, over 40 movies, an immensely successful beauty brand, and a million hearts under her belt, Katrina Kaif has impressively gone from being the newcomer of Bollywood to an everyday household face and name. Her love for makeup sparked her to start Kay Beauty — a homegrown cosmetics line that has proved to make makeup more accessible to the girl and boy next door across the country. In the last three years, Kay Beauty has become one of the most-loved, go-to brands for all things makeup, earning Katrina Kaif a whole new fan base all together. Over the years, when it comes to beauty, we’ve seen her sport it all — from a multitude of smokey eyes, to power packed bold lips, to her most loved minimalistic fresh face. We caught up with the beauty queen, Katrina Kaif herself at #VBF2022 and asked her to spill the beans on all things beauty and wellness.

Classic red or nude lips?

Katrina Kaif: Pinky Nude

One makeup hack that changed everything for you?

KK: Contour. Once I discovered contour, there was no looking back.

Your skincare regime before applying makeup?

KK: Before applying makeup for me, the must-have is moisturiser. It’s the must-have if you want your foundation to sit right.

If we were to raid your vanity kit, what would be the one recurring makeup or skincare product?

KK: The Kay Beauty Lip Crayon. For me, it’s one of our greatest achievements. It is the perfect lip crayon. It is just the right amount of moisture for your lips, it lasts all day, and we have the most amazing colours.

Any red-carpet look that still haunts you?

KK: Yes. So, one time, there was this person whose name we will not mention, they encouraged me to try a top-knot. But it wasn't a full top-knot, it was like a half top-knot. So, I kind of just looked like a Samurai, and I'm not sure that was my best looks.

What’s the one beauty rule that has been your constant all these years?

KK: The one beauty rule for me I would say is always leave home feeling happy about yourself, when you look in the mirror. So, if there's ever something that, like, someone has encouraged me to try, it could be a clothing item, it could be a piece of jewellery, it could be a lip colour, it could be anything. I'll always try it, but if I'm not feeling comfortable, then I'll always be like…*throwing away gesture*.

One tip given by your dermatologist that you religiously follow?

KK: The best skincare tip that I ever got, is sunblock. Prevention is better than cure.

Your one wellness fetish?

KK: One wellness fetish would be acupuncture.

A recent celebrity beauty look that left you stunned?

KK: Deepika at Cannes. I think that she did some really stunning looks there.

The song you currently have on loop on your getting-ready playlist?

KK: Feels Like by Mickey Singh. That’s my current favourite.
