As Avatar sails past The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King on course for a fifth record-setting weekend, Na'vi obsessives are having a field day.
Fans of verdant moon Pandora and its blue Na'vi natives can dive deeper into James Cameron's alt-world alien fantasy with a number of earth-bound diversions:
- In Florida, an apparently sincere Avatar enthusiast is recruiting idealists for a real-life tribe inspired by Na'vi values.
- 20th Century Fox posted James Cameron's script online (.pdf) for dialogue fanatics who want to see what got cut from the final version.
- The Avatar Interactive Battle Pack Set ($35) includes a 4.25-inch, glow-in-the-dark figure of the "Jake" Avatar figure (pictured) plus six downloadable i-Tags that can be placed in front of your webcam to control 3-D on-screen models.
- The perhaps inevitable spoof video Avatar – Hot Na'vi Sex, a silly, NSFW animated clip, traffics in alien intercourse.
Now we're just waiting for a Google Translate tool so humans can start communicating in Na'vi – it's a real language invented by University of Southern California linguist Paul Frommer.
