February 3, 2023When it comes to home security we almost always prefer the best and most effective options. The Blink Security Camera with Floodlight is a very good alternative at an affordable price and has an easy to use app.
This floodlight connects wired, in the box are included the necessary accessories for installation. Once installed in the place of convenience is necessary to download the Blink app on your phone, within the app just follow the setup instructions. I think it is important to mention that if you have an active VPN on your phone, it is necessary to deactivate it momentarily to be able to carry out the flood light configuration, otherwise there should be no problem.
Within the app you can access the events recorded by the camera, the sound, video, notifications and account settings. It is necessary to create a Blink account and in case of using Alexa, it is possible to connect the apps for further control. The camera has no internal memory so a subscription is required to be able to store clips in the cloud, there is an accessory to be able to install a memory but they are sold separately. Initially a 30-day free trial is activated, after which you will be charged on a month-to-month basis.
The image quality is good, remember that the resolution is 1080, what I think can be improved is the night mode, it fulfills its function but it lacks a little sharpness. The sound of the microphone, the speaker and the alarm, seem to me quite good for the kind of product it is. What I find outstanding is the speed with which it detects movement, the notification it sends to the phone is almost instantaneous, when you click on it, the live view opens to know what is happening in real time, at the same time it records the event and stores it to consult it whenever we want. I have used products of the same kind and the truth is that one of the key factors is the motion detection and notification time, this product definitely takes the prize. In addition the product has a very good finish, is aesthetically pleasing and is made of very resistant materials, considering that this device will remain outside for a long time, it is better that it is resistant to weather changes.
In summary, I think that the app and the device work very well together, the app has the necessary and a little more to control and configure the floodlight camera to taste. The price seems fair although you have to pay a subscription, however if we consider that it is home security, it is worth it. I believe it’s a very good option, recommended.

February 9, 2023We’ve been Blink wireless security camera users for a couple years now, and this is our first wired product from the company that we’ve added to our home security system. This floodlight camera is replacing an existing motion activated floodlight (without camera) that we have mounted above our garage facing into our driveway. Since the wiring and electrical box were already in place, installing the wired Blink floodlight/camera combo was simple and straightforward. The only thing we had to swap out after removing our old floodlight was the mounting bar behind the fixture.
Once the unit was wired up, we flipped the circuit breaker back on and the camera powered up and went into “setup mode.” Adding it to the Blink mobile app only took a couple of taps, and the instructions were easy to follow; we were ready to go in under 15 minutes from unboxing. There are two bright LED lights to provide up to 2600 lumens (combined) of illumination. The lights can be swiveled up to 90° left/right and up/down to point in the directions you need them to face and their brightness adjusted in the app. The camera itself sits below the lights, and its position is also adjustable on an articulating ball joint.
Since the device comes with a 30-day free trial of a Blink Subscription Plan, during this time you’ll have access to unlimited cloud video recording and 60 days of cloud storage, extended live view and live recording, and photo capture. When the trial ends, you’ll be limited to live view only without recording unless you either purchase an ongoing subscription or use a Sync Module 2 (sold separately) that allows you to save motion captures locally to a USB thumbdrive, up to 256 GB. The floodlight is also compatible with the first generation of Sync modules which included a limited amount of free cloud storage (for grandfathered users).
Note though that the system must be “armed” in order to enable the motion detector to trigger both recordings and the floodlight. Alternatively, you can set the lights to go on from dusk to dawn. When set to motion triggered, the floodlights will only go on if it is sufficiently dark and the area of activation is about 15-20 feet away from the camera. It can detect motion up to 143° diagonally from the unit, however, motion farther away, for example in the street past our driveway or the neighbor’s yard across the street, does not set off the motion sensor and motion zones cannot be user defined.
The resolution of the camera at 1080p HD is clear and detailed, and during the day the colors are accurate and well saturated. We can make out the license plates of the cars parked in our driveway and identify people’s faces. Motion sensitivity can be set from 1 to 9 and set to record all motion, people only (with a subscription), or ‘nothing’ for notifications only without recordings. Even at the highest sensitivity, small things like bugs flying in front of the camera don’t trigger the motion sensor, which really helps cut down on nuisance notifications. Audio quality in the recorded video files is clear and crisp, but in app playback you can hear digital artifacts and distortion in the compressed audio stream.
At night, the infrared lights kick in to illuminate the image which becomes black and white, but you can still see a lot of detail. The only issue may be with highly reflective or white surfaces as these can get washed out; adjusting the IR “illuminator” settings from low/med/high or off may help. When the floodlight comes on, color gets added back to the image, though can appear undersaturated and lighter colors get washed out. However, the light provides two primary benefits, as a deterrent for trespassers and as a pathway light when we come home at night. The floodlights are plenty bright to see by, providing enough illumination to avoid trip hazards in the dark.
In the app, you can view, download, and share video and image captures. You can also enable 2-way audio, as the camera has a speaker that also doubles as a loud 105 decibels siren that you can manually trigger for 30 seconds during live view. Note that the siren's volume and duration are not adjustable though you can manually stop it by tapping the Siren Off button or exiting the live view. However, in my testing of the 2-way audio from the Android app, while I could hear the audio feed from the camera, the audio that should have come out of the speaker on the camera either never gets transmitted (even with speaker volume set to the max) or cuts out after a few seconds, making this feature unusable.
Overall, this floodlight camera was very easy to install and use, when replacing an existing outdoor floodlight. The LED floodlights are bright, the motion sensor adequately sensitive, and the video/audio recorded is high quality, clear, and detailed. The only feature we couldn’t get to work well was the 2-way audio, which isn’t a dealbreaker for us, since we don’t think we’d have used it often. As existing Blink users with a Sync Module 2, we appreciate being able to save recordings locally without a paid subscription. We also like that the system is integrated with Alexa so we can bring up the video feed on our screens or change its settings with voice commands and in the Alexa app.

February 11, 2023I got the Blink - Outdoor Wired 1080p Security Camera with Floodlight and couldn’t wait to install it. Finally had some warmer weather after the arctic freeze in the Northeast, so I was able to perform the installation. It was actually pretty easy to do by replacing an existing flood light. The only minor drawback in my case is this flood light is on a switch, so I have to make sure everyone in the house knows not to turn it off which would render the whole setup, including the camera useless.
Once the unit is wired you start with downloading and installing the Blink App on your phone that requires you to create an account, and follow the instructions in the App to add the camera to your Wi-Fi network. Image quality is pretty crisp during the day and decent during the night, though it certainly gets better once the floodlight kicks in and lights up the surroundings. The intensity of the light is adjustable thru the App from 1-10, so I picked 5 which is plenty bright - Warning - do not look directly at the flood light or any bright LED lights for that matter, you could damage your vision. So yes, this thing is very bright, so make sure you adjust the angle position as well. The camera has 2-way audio built-in but the volume is kind of low which is to be expected from such a small unit. I don’t think I’ll be using this feature much as I rarely have anyone come up to the garage door to enter the house, the front door is 20 ft away and has its own camera doorbell. Motion detection is decent as well, though sometimes it’s too sensitive when windy.
Unfortunately this Blink camera does not have an SD-card slot, though you can purchase an accessory, the Blink Sync Module 2 and Flash Drive for local video recording, otherwise you’ll have to pay $3/mo or $10/mo for Amazon cloud storage. Other low budget cameras such as Wyze v3 come with a micro-SD slot for local recording.
Overall, this is a decent setup for a reasonably low price and the flood lights are great, but the camera is just OK IMHO.

February 23, 2023The Blink outdoor wired 1080p security camera with floodlight came to me neatly and securely packaged, and included everything needed for a quick and easy installation.
I wanted to mount this camera under the eave on the horizontal soffit where a previous floodlight was located. Past attempts were unsuccessful because other manufacturers didn't design their cameras with this option in mind. It is sort of mind blowing since a large percentage of homes in my area have flood lights mounted in this location, and these devices seem to primarily target the DIY retrofit market.
Installation was super easy and straight forward. Simply power off the circuit for safety, I prefer to use the circuit breaker so that no one can kill me by flipping the switch as they walk past, and remove the old light. Next, attach the bracket for the Blink light/camera and hang the light assembly from the bracket using the included S-hook, and connect the wires color to color just like the old light. Finally, remove the S-hook and install the light/camera using the single center fastener, align as you like, and tighten it securely so that it doesn't rotate. Installation complete!
Setup with the Bling App was just as easy. Just download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, follow the instructions to setup your account, locate the device, and follow the instructions within the app. The light quickly connects to the network and control becomes available via the app.
The Blink device also easily integrates with Amazon's Alexa service using the Blink Skill. Then, if you have an Echo Show, you can say something like, "Alexa, show the driveway", and in a few seconds the camera view of the driveway will appear on screen.
This is a great product. It seems to be well-made, is intelligently designed to work in most locations, provides great video quality, and easily integrates with smart home devices.
