SO unhappy with this phone!

I was so excited to get the S24+ after Christmas.... I've been a loyal Samsung user for over 15 years... however, this phone camera is the absolute worst I have ever owned. I just switched from the S20Fe and I am so grateful that I still own it, as I have switched back to using it. I'm locked into a 2 year phone plan with my S24+, but I am so desperate to have a decent working camera that I've had to resort to this option. Every photo on the S24+ is overprocessed and given that I take so many pictures of my family and children, the washed out, ghost-like, sickly appearance that the S24+ gives any skin tone is just unacceptable for a phone in this price range. I was a little disappointed with the quality of the S20Fe camera when I first purchased it: the selfie camera didn't have autofocus and I found that my previous phone, the S9, was so much better at producing quality photos that could be blown up and printed off for framing. We have 8×10 portraits all over our house from photos taken with the S9. The S20Fe produces decent photos, but I was really looking forward to an even better camera with the release of the S24+. I have never in my life been so disappointed. I have switched around all my settings, downloaded the camera assistant, and tried editing them through my paid subscriptions to various photo editing apps... the portrait pictures and skin tone quality are so so bad. Additionally, the battery life on my S24+ is terrible. I see so many reviews stating that the battery is exceptional, but I only use my phone for roughly 5 hours total per day (scrolling social media, taking pictures and videos, checking emails, etc.) and my phone goes from 80% charged to 15%. Overall, I've always loved Samsung's operating system... but I am so so disappointed with this particular phone. The camera is such an important component in my choice of phone and I've always been happy with the previous versions of the Galaxy S series.. I just cannot believe how bad the camera/gallery app is on this S24+.
Review of SAMSUNG Galaxy S24+ - 512 GB Onyx Black

Previously been an S10+ Samsung Galaxy User and so far 1 month in?

This phone is already a HUGE improvement over my previous daily driver of a phone.

(For context my old S10+ phone was already approaching 4 years old and of course some of the vital buttons to use the phone were falling out after typical heavy usage)

Major PRO's on the S24+ so far:

VERY EASY AND PAINLESS Migration of all photos, videos, music files contacts and even your installed apps. HUGE+ and that I suppose is a perk of being a part of the Samsung ecosystem thanks to the SMART SWITCH application that is built into Samsung phones. The whole process took 30 to 40 minutes to get EVERYTHING across because I store a lot of data. Especially with the wired USB C TO C Connector for full stability during migration.

Wireless Migration of data was a little bit unstable so opted to use the cable.

The Processing Power, RAM Memory and especially the internal storage is a huge improvement as well.

Download and installation of apps from both the Samsung and Google Play store as VERY QUICK. Another + for easy software maintenance.

Camera functions are very good they definitely beat my old phone by a mile.

Voice recording in most Instant messaging apps is very good quality so definitely a solid built microphone array.

Overall other then being SLIGHTLY more heavier then the old phone I can tell it has decent build quality. Already deliberately dropped it a few times onto a wooden floor with both a case protector and a screen protector. PERFECTLY FINE.

The only CON I have noted so far is the lack of the built Heart Rate Red Light Sensor that the new phone lacks but the old phone had.

Though I suppose using a supplementary Galaxy Watch Wearable will fully compensate and render that negative reason null and void.

NOTABLE GOTCHA's for those changing to this phone from an old phone:

This took me a little bit to realise but the S24+ Power button hardware wise when the phone is OFF it does function as a POWER ON button but after that point it will only function as the BIXBY voice assistant button.

TO ACTUALLY TURN OFF THE PHONE NOW versus before:

You actually need to open your Android OS Control Panel and expand it to reveal the power symbol itself on the OS and then tap it.

Only then do you get the options to turn off, Restart, Do emergency calls or medical info.

If you do not like this and want to change the behaviour of the side button you need to access the side button settings so that you can the change the behaviour of the side button.
Samsung S24+ Smart Phone

So far the S24+ has been a real gem operational wise. The setup was very easy to transfer all data to the S24+ when flawless using the fire-wire cable between the two phones using the Smart Switch. Some apps were only compatible with didn't transfer but all other apps and data did. So the apps that were missing I either didn't use them or will replace with an android app. I made some tweaks to the phone for better performance since I really like the performance of Android Auto over Car play was a lot more stable and easier to use so far. The speed of the S24+ is really fast and phone is very easy to customize to your preference. I like the battery settings were you can adjust it three different ways so I selected the 80% setting trying that for awhile since it provides 80% charging level max so far has worked out real well and maintains the level to that and phone charge lasts along time. Only had one problem with phone calls dropping and couldn't answer the incoming calls so it looks like it was a tmobile network problem tried the next day worked fine. Overall I really impressed with the speed of the S24+ very fast on changing screens, running apps, and updates to the android operating system. The last android phone I had a S9 a few years back that worked fine only decided to try the new Samsung S24+ would say operational wise the S24+ seems better than the what the S9 phone was far more advanced and reliable and operation thus far.
Very disappointed

I have never spent this much on a phone before but I wanted a phone with a decent camera so that I don't have to carry around my old compact camera anymore. (If I could have bought a new compact camera I would have but that's another story.) Anyway I did my research and thought this phone would suit my requirements. I couldn't have been more wrong.
Up till now I had a trusty Oneplus and I have to say that I still prefer it to this phone. For a start, my Oneplus always had 4 signal bars in my home, this Samsung struggles to get 2 bars with the same SIM card. As an older person, living alone, it's very important that I have a reliable phone. The fingerprint reader is very temperamental and mostly doesn't work. I have set the phone to come on when lifted - that doesn't work either.
As for the preinstalled apps, well, there is a lot of rubbish. I have uninstalled some but there are still some I don't want that can't be uninstalled. Why don't phone manufacturers allow us to install what we want when we are paying so much money for the product? And why have all the Google apps got be in a folder as have the Samsung apps? If I wanted them in a folder I could make a folder but I can't take them out of the folders. For instance, I can take the Chrome app, add it to the home screen but then if I remove it from the home screen it goes back in the folder. I don't want it on the home screen but I don't want it in a folder either. I want to to set the home screen and the apps exactly how I want them, not how Samsung thinks I want them. I ruled out a Pixel phone because I discovered you can't remove the search bar from the home screen on Pixels.
As for the performance, I don't think it's any faster than my old phone. The screen clarity is much the same. The photos don't look much better either. I really wish I hadn't wasted my money - this is the worst value phone I have ever owned.
