Tanjung Sepat Beach, Selangor

image

Tanjung Sepat is a small, coastal town located approximately 95 kilometers south of downtown Kuala Lumpur. Visitors often make a detour here to visit the town?s fishing village and indulge in it?s culinary delights. The town is also an emerging eco/agrotourism destination, with a growing number of visitors arriving over the past decade or so. Tourist buses are a common sight here, especially on weekends, as local and foreign visitors hungry for a taste of culture and tradition find this serene and calm village very appealing.

Ecotourism/Agrotourism

  • Bakaugruv Kampung Resort: Educational nature camps that attract both locals and foreigners are frequently held at this idyllic village-style resort.
  • Kuan Wellness Ecopark: One of Malaysia?s first bird?s nest ecology parks. Kuan Wellness Ecopark is also listed in the Malaysia Book of Records as the first birds nest producer to be awarded ISO 22000 (Food Safety Management System) certification.
  • Ganofarm Homestay: Ganofarm is a mushroom research company that cultivates edible and medicinal mushrooms as well as other mushroom-based products. Types of mushrooms grown include the rare and expensive Lingzhi mushroom (Mushroom of Immortality), abalone mushrooms and monkey head mushrooms. There is a homestay located in the vicinity of the farm, with over 30 rooms and chalets available.
  • Lovers? Bridge: Lovers? Bridge is a long, rickety wooden bridge that leads out to the ocean. Used primarily by fishermen to unload their catch, it is also popular among photo hunters with several shops and seafood restaurants nearby.
  • Fishing Village: Starting from near the town center, the nooks and crannies of Tanjung Sepat?s fishing village are best explored on foot. There are many fishing boats docked during the low tide, letting you observe how fishermen in these waters operate.
  • Chinese Opera: The predominant Chinese community in Tanjung Sepat New Village worship many deities but extra reverence is accorded to Tie Dai Yuan Shuai (the Iron General). Each year there is an elaborate celebration during the birth month of the Iron General deity, which falls during the third month of the Chinese lunar calendar (April or May in the Gregorian calendar). The celebrations usually last a month and is marked with feasts, firecrackers, offerings and traditional Chinese opera shows near the Qing Long Gong temple.
