This double page from a tenth century Chinese printed blockbook sets out the hexagram, which consists of six straight lines - the trigrams Chien or Chien - followed by the traditional rationale pertaining to this meeting of the two trigrams. The title, Chien, is usually translated as 'The Creative', or 'The Heavenly'.
